Low-key is the idea behind this small, converted guesthouse on the grounds of an enormous house. When guests ring the doorbell at the gate, just as they would if they were dropping by a pal's house, owner Milena greets visitors herself and leads them to a separate building behind the main residence. Inside the super-clean first room is a double bed, bathroom and a fully stocked kitchen, plus the usual hotel amenities such as a flat-screen TV. A door near the kitchen opens out into a small landing, where, on the other side, is another room, just as comfy and tastefully decorated but without the bathroom or kitchen — a concept that works when it's two couples renting both rooms and don't mind sharing, or a family that needs an extra room for the kids. The set-up's not traditional, but that's the point: This is meant to feel like a home away from home, within a gorgeous neighborhood just a few blocks away from a major avenue. And what makes this better than your house (and, heck, traditional hotels and b&bs) is the full Brazilian-style breakfast made for guests and delivered directly to you without the need to order room service.
