Fernanda Yamamoto’s storefront is an exemplar of Brazilian modernism, with large glass windows topped by concrete—an urban look that jibes with the architecture of São Paulo. Inside, scaffolding-like rails doubling as clothing racks of menswear and womenswear tower into the large space above, creating a feeling of height that mirrors the city’s skyscrapers. For her pieces, Yamamoto draws upon neutral and muted palettes and plays with a variety of textures to add depth. Soft fabrics of silk, bamboo and cotton add lightness all seem to have origami references, symmetry and a nod toward the architectural structures of the city. Under the FY Convida project, Yamamoto also stocks capsule clothing and accessories collections by other up-and-coming Brazilian brands like OEStudio, plus items fresh off the runway from Sao Paulo’s indie fashion week, Casa de Criadores.
