Crowning jewel of Wallpaper's 2010 Design Awards as Best New Restaurant is 7,000-plant-strong vertical wall, an Atlantic forest in the middle of Sao Paulo's concrete jungle. Although diners could be almost convinced they're hearing the squawking of rare tropical birds instead of honking cars, bigwig architect Arthur Casas conceived space inspired by open-air restaurants of Ibiza and Miami, with its elongated space, wood ceiling, retractable roof and lounge mezzanine with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the restaurant. Indian objects and books facing low-slung bar brings the feeling back around to Brazil. Tiled pool absorbs the heat from hot deals closed between area impresarios over lunch of fresh, made-to-order pasta, grilled seafood or steak in menu that circulates around French-Italian mix. Take a guess: The humidity emanating from the forest is what makes high-society diners shine or it could be the wine from Kaa's 250-label wine cellar. Photos: Leonardo Finotti
