Bela Vista

Located in the quiet back streets of Bixiga, Sao Paulo's own little Italy, rests this spacious pousada-cum-hostel on a street full of mini-villas from the early 20th century, with different sleeping options to cater to all needs: dormitories, private rooms and family rooms. Less of a party space, the bright Pousada dos Franceses provides a calming, conservative and home-like environment with quick access to Avenida Paulista and is one of the few hostels around this area. The TV room is adorned with sofas overlooking a small, manicured garden, where Europeans, American and Brazilians hit up the Internet via WiFi. A typical Brazilian breakfast is included with every night's stay. The looks of the place won't garner it any awards for design, but you'll at least get a good night's sleep, and the lockers are big enough to stash a backpack and souvenirs. Plan to eat out most of the time—although kitchen access is open, it gets fuzzy on whether they like you using it.
